Getting started

Supported file types & audio formats

Which audio and text files you can bring into QuestLog - and what happens to each.

QuestLog accepts audio from any recorder or app, plus text notes and transcripts.

Audio formats

MP3, M4A, AAC, WAV, FLAC, OGG/Opus, WebM, MP4 (audio), and AMR. If your recorder makes it, QuestLog almost certainly reads it.

Text & transcript formats

TXT, MD, SRT, VTT. A text file with no audio becomes a text-only recording that QuestLog still summarizes.

What happens to each file

  • Audio is transcribed fresh by QuestLog - diarization, summary, highlights, action items and notes.
  • Text is imported as-is and summarized.

About OGG/Opus and WebM

These are common from Plaud and some web/browser recorders. They're great for size, but Safari can't play them natively - so QuestLog automatically creates a small .m4a copy for smooth in-browser playback. You don't lift a finger, and your original file is kept untouched.

Already-universal formats (MP3, M4A, WAV) are used as-is, no conversion.

A few practical notes

  • Long recordings are fine - they just take proportionally longer to process.
  • The companion app, QuestLog Capture, records .m4a - universally playable, so phone captures never need converting.
  • Not sure a file will work? Just drop it in Import files and try - unsupported types are rejected up front, nothing breaks.
