Troubleshooting

My recording says “No speech detected” or “Voice Note”

Why a recording came back empty - and how to get a real transcript.

If a recording is titled “Voice Note” and says “No speech detected,” QuestLog listened but couldn't find any intelligible speech, so it closed the recording cleanly instead of erroring.

Common causes

  • The file is silent or near-silent (mic muted, or too far from the speaker).
  • An accidental upload - a wrong file, or a half-second tap.
  • The audio is almost entirely music or background noise.
  • The recording was truncated and the speech got cut.

What to do

  1. Play or download it and confirm there's actually audible speech.
  2. If the mic was the problem, re-record closer to the speaker.
  3. If you think it was a fluke, Reprocess the recording - that re-runs the whole pipeline.
  4. Speaking another language? Set your spoken language in Settings to help detection on quiet or accented audio.

Don't worry about “wasting” anything

Empty, silent or accidental uploads are recognized as not-a-real-recording - they never count toward any usage limits. Only genuine recordings with real content do.
